What is Bi-Polar Disorder? It is a mental condition that is characterized by the unusual mood swings from deep depressive lows to manic highs. This disorder is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain and affect how individuals feel and act in their personal and professional lives. The disorder usually develops in late adolescence and young adulthood and cannot be cured, although it can be managed. Approximately one percent of the general population has received a bipolar disorder diagnosis, and ten percent of those with depression are actually diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
